#cherishdown - the beginning

People with Down syndrome are Zen masters, they teach us to live in the moment. They are mindful without ever having heard of that concept. When they laugh they laugh with their heart, lovingly and grateful even for the least amount of attention they receive. That’s how they remind us of what is essential in life: being happy to give each other appreciation and warmth.
People with Down syndrome are vulnerable, beautiful people who arouse caring. That connects us.

My brother Luc is born with Down syndrome. Not a day went by that I wasn't touched by his heartfelt smile. He could amaze with sheer simplicity and move with his sincere glance and his soft but playful eyes. He was my Zen master, the greatest artist in my life.

The hashtag #cherishdown is a window into the world for people like my brother. They don't come into the picture often themselves, but they can teach us so much. People with Down syndrome invite us to see life in a different way, a new perspective.

I wrote the song 'He's Not Much Of A Talker' for my brother Luc. It introduces the hashtag #cherishdown and likes to shed a warm light on those who sometimes struggle to express themselves with words.

Cherish people with Down and those who care for them. Cherish: Down.

"I wrote this song for my brother with Down syndrome to celebrate a lifetime of unconditional love. He is the greatest artist I have ever known."

He's Not Much of a Talker

He’s not much of a talker
He speaks his mind with his eyes
Remembers only the good things
Always leaving the bad aside

He’s not much of a talker
He speaks from the heart with his eyes
Remembers only the good things
The music is always on his side

I had a dream he said
You can feel the joy in his heart
There was a beautiful girl
She kissed me and held me so tight

He’s not much of a talker
He speaks from the heart with his eyes
Remembers only the good things

Whenever I’m blue you lift me up
We pull the funniest faces and never stop
Smile with your heart
Giggle and laugh, laa laaa lala la laaa...

He’s not much of a talker
He speaks his mind with his eyes
Always in for a joke or two
I won’t feel anymore... blue
